Description
The Employment Act (Cap. 226) is the principal law governing employment relationships in Uganda. It provides the legal framework for the regulation of employment contracts, setting out the rights and obligations of employers and employees. The Act covers key aspects of employment such as formation of contracts, wages, hours of work, leave entitlements, termination of employment, disciplinary procedures, and protection against unfair dismissal. The Act also establishes safeguards for decent work by regulating matters such as child labour, forced labour, maternity protection, and workplace health and safety obligations.
